Moisture Control Services

The Bug Doctor provides a number of services designed to reduce moisture levels in crawl spaces. Regulating moisture is an important part of reducing the risk of molds, fungi, and wood-destroying insects.

Automatic Foundation Vents

Proper ventilation in a crawl space home is essential in protecting the wooden support framing from decay and insect attack. The Bug Doctor offers Temp-Vent® Automatic Foundation Vents as part of a crawl space moisture reduction program.

Automatic foundation vents take the worry out of remembering to open and close vents as the weather changes. The vent has a bi-metal coil to open and close automatically without electricity. When the temperature reaches 70°F the vent is fully opened to provide fresh air, and fully closes at approximately 40°F to conserve energy and protect pipes. Temp-Vent® automatic foundation vents are available through The Bug Doctor and not found in stores. Their quality and durability far exceeds the brands found in do-it-yourself home improvement stores.

Temp-Vents also save on heating and cooling costs. Their rugged construction provides years of reliable service and increase the aesthetics of your home’s appearance. Heavy duty screens prevent a wide variety of pests from entering your home.

Temp Vent foundation vent systems help protect this critical area of the home. What’s more, ventilation can help control conditions that lead to mold, mildew, fungi, damp rot and unhealthy air.

Power Foundation Vents

For homes that require additional airflow due to construction or excessively damp soil, the Power Temp Vent is the ideal choice. Powered vents are quick, convenient and economical when it comes to controlling moisture and odor problems.

Air is pulled out of the crawl space and replaced with fresh outside air. Negative pressure helps prevent dampness and odor from rising into living areas of the home.

Power Temp-Vents feature a totally enclosed motor and come in a variety of output ratings for continuous operation. UL recognized and CSA certified.

Moisture Barriers

The proper installation of a polyethylene moisture barrier in conjunction with proper foundation ventilation is important to maintain the structural integrity of your home’s floor. A properly installed moisture barrier reduces soil moisture from condensating on your HVAC ducts and wooden floor supports allowing the wood to maintain a low level of moisture that resists insect infestation and decay growth.

The Bug Doctor’s moisture is a 6-mil opaque polyethylene film that is professionally installed to state specifications. Our installation goes one step further in that the moisture barrier is fastened to the soil to prevent tearing disruption. The durable opaque film in conjunction with secured fastening provides years of service and reduces barrier deterioration often seen with clear polyethylene film.
